Structured cabling system (SCS) is a hierarchic cabling medium of transferring electric or optical signals in the building, divided into structured subsystems and consisting of elements Ц cables and connectors. Per se, SCS consists of set of brass and optical cables, commutating panels, connecting wires, cable connectors, modular jacks of informational outlet and auxiliary equipment. SCS provides connection of the local automatic switching center, simultaneous work of computer and telephone networks, and gives an opportunity to flexible change the configuration of the cabling system. Cables equipped with connectors and laid out by certain rules, form lines and backbones. Lines, backbones, connecting points and commutations are the functional elements of SCS.

SCS is engineered subject to redundancy as by quantity of subscribers as by capacity. Thus the availability of its further widening without its conversion is laid. SCS presence significantly simplifies service and utilization of computer networks and other subsystems.

Geographically SCS can cover one or more floors of the building or several buildings. For cable crossing special rooms are given called floor cross room and cross buildings. In the cross rooms thermal behavior, conditioning and power supply regulations are supported. Floor cross rooms are connected with vertical cable backbone. Working places and connecting points are connected with horizontal cable backbone. Vertical cable backbone is meant for more capacity than the horizontal one.

Every element of SCS is marked. Depending on the element type marking can be made several times (in the case of cables Ц minimum at 2 ends). Markings are the informational base of SCS elements by which commutating and planning of power is made.
